Town Twinning
Town twinning is a concept that came to Europe soon after the Second World War.
Two towns, usually of similar demographics and characteristics, join in twin status
to bring the communities together to allow people gain a better understanding of life
in different regions of the world.
It provides a great opportunity for the two communities to come together and share
life experiences and areas of common interest.
These links are a friendship agreement between the two communities, which are
supported by the local authorities.
In the UK there are now over 2000 different links. 50% are with French towns,
25% with German and the remaining 25% are spread throughout the rest of the world.
